Frequently Asked Questions
Is this like therapy?
Coaching is not the same as therapy. While cognitive therapeutic models typically focus on the past to heal old wounds, coaching deploys current strengths as the foundation for a future-facing, action-oriented approach. If at any point during our work I feel as though you or your child could benefit from therapy or other diagnostic work, we will discuss options and possible referrals together.
How long does parent coaching take?
We commit to work together for 10 to 12 sessions, typically weekly. Each session lasts 1 hour.
Do I have to bring my spouse or ex?
I’ve worked with one or both parents in a family. Parent coaching works best with consistency, so if one parent requests coaching, that parent should come to all sessions. (And by extension, if a couple agrees to work together with me, both partners should plan to attend all sessions.)
Will you meet my children?
I don’t meet with clients’ children. Parent coaching is for parents. While we might work through establishing routines for your children, for example, or ways to grapple with peer pressure, my support is for you alone.
Do you work with parents with neurodiverse children or those with learning differences and other challenges?
Yes. Parent coaching is unique to each family depending on needs.
How do the sessions work?
While we tailor sessions to your individual needs, there is a distinct framework and flow of progress to our work together.
